Restoration Services

Specialized techniques for every type of wooden furniture found in countryside homes.

Structural Reinforcement

Furniture that wobbles. Joints that have loosened over decades. Frames that creak under weight they once bore easily.

We disassemble compromised sections, clean old adhesive from mortises and tenons, and reassemble using traditional hide glue or modern equivalents matched to the original construction. Dowels are replaced with properly fitted hardwood. Broken rails receive scarf joints or Dutchman patches rather than metal brackets.

The goal is invisible strength. When we are done, the piece stands firm again without betraying that it was ever weakened.

Surface Refinishing

Water rings from forgotten glasses. Sun fade across one side. Scratches that map years of daily use.

We evaluate the existing finish first. Sometimes a simple cleaning and waxing is enough. When refinishing is necessary, we strip carefully, avoiding power tools that can gouge soft pine or alter carved details. Stains are matched to original tones. Topcoats are selected for durability without obscuring grain.

You receive a surface that looks cared for, not factory new.

Antique Chair Revival

Dining chairs passed down through generations. Rockers that soothed crying infants. Desk chairs where letters were written.

Chairs take unique stress. Legs splay. Rungs crack. We re-glue loose joints, replace split spindles with turned duplicates, and reinforce seats without adding visible hardware. Rush or cane seating can be rewoven. Upholstered seats receive new padding while preserving original fabric when possible.

The chair returns to service, ready for another generation of use.

Cabinet and Drawer Repair

Drawers that bind. Doors that hang askew. Shelves that sag under the weight of dishware.

We plane drawer sides for smooth gliding, replace worn runners, adjust hinges, and level shelving. Dovetail joints that have separated are re-fitted. Drawer bottoms that have split receive reinforcement or replacement panels cut to match the original construction.

Everything closes properly. Everything opens when needed.

Decorative Carving Restoration

Ornamental details worn smooth by decades of dusting. Floral motifs with petals broken off. Appliques that have separated from the main body.

This is the most delicate work we do. We study the remaining carving to understand the original pattern, then recreate lost sections by hand. No two carvings are identical, even on the same piece, so we match the spirit rather than attempting mechanical duplication.

Re-attached elements are secured with reversible methods. Future restorers will be able to undo our work if better techniques emerge.
