A farmhouse table, scarred and split, arrived at our workshop years ago. The owner's grandmother had kneaded bread on that surface. Children had carved initials into its edge. It was not valuable in monetary terms, but it held everything.
We could have stripped it smooth, erased the marks, made it look new. Instead, we reinforced the structure, cleaned the finish, and left the stories intact. When the family saw it again, they wept.
That is when we understood our purpose.
Restoration is not about perfection. It is about preservation. The scratches matter. The worn corners matter. They are evidence of use, of love, of life lived around these objects.
Our role is to stabilize, not sanitize. We stop further decay without erasing history. We return function without stripping character.
Every piece receives individual attention. We do not batch-process heirlooms. We study the construction methods of the original maker, research period-appropriate finishes, and source matching wood when replacements are necessary.
Most importantly, we listen. To the grain. To the client. To what the furniture itself is telling us about its history and needs.
We do only what is necessary. Over-restoration destroys authenticity.
